Nourishment, Energy, and Midlife Vitality
Men’s health is often overlooked. As in, they seldom ask for help until it’s a crisis! There’s endless talk about women’s wellness, but men face unique challenges too—especially when it comes to nutrition, hormones, energy, and the ability to thrive in midlife and beyond.
This is where my journey into men’s health began.
Growing Up: The Impact of Work on Health and Family
I grew up as an only child. My dad was a chef, which meant long hours and late nights. When he came home, he rarely wanted to cook—it had become more of a chore than a joy.
The real issue? I hardly saw him. His career demanded so much, and while there were moments of connection, they were rare. As a child, I missed out on time with him, and he missed out on me.
It wasn’t until after his retirement—when illness had already taken its toll—that we finally had quality time together. We finally got to know each other.
Looking back, I realise this isn’t just our story. It’s one shared by many families, where men sacrifice their health and family life to work, provide, and keep everything afloat.
The Burden of Men’s Health in Midlife
Too often, men carry the weight of the world:
Holding down jobs.
Carrying financial and family responsibilities.
Suppressing stress and emotions.
And in doing so, they sacrifice themselves.
But being busy shouldn’t mean missing out on life—on family time, hobbies, friendships, or simple joy. To show up fully, men need energy, and that comes from nutrition and lifestyle habits that truly support their bodies.
Nutrition for Men: Why Food Quality Matters
Men’s health conversations are increasingly filled with diet trends—carnivore, keto, intermittent fasting. These might offer quick fixes, but the real question is: are they giving men the nourishment they need for energy, hormones, and long-term vitality?
As men age, bodies change:
Hormones shift (testosterone and others).
Energy dips.
Drive and motivation decline.
This isn’t just “getting older.” More often, it’s a sign of being undernourished, overstressed, and under-rested.
The solution isn’t extreme diets—it’s sustainable, nutrient-rich food that fuels body and mind.
My Husband’s Story: From Burnout to Balance
Eight years ago, when I began my nutrition studies, my husband came to the student clinic. He was exhausted—low energy, dry eyes, and convinced it was simply age catching up with him.
His diet?☕ Coffee out the door, maybe toast.🥪 Sandwiches, chocolate, and more coffee to keep going.🍽 Dinner, then collapse into bed.
No joy. No energy. Just survival mode.
Together, we made small, realistic changes:
Breakfast: Oats instead of relying on caffeine.
Lunch: Soup, salad, or casserole.
Snacks: Fruit, nuts, and dark chocolate.
Dinner: A balance of oily fish, meat, beans, and lentils all included.
The result? A transformation.
Would he go back? Absolutely not.Why? Because he finally realised how bad he had felt before.
These days, he still enjoys the occasional pint, a gin, or even a coffee, but he’s learned to tune into his body. He knows when it’s time to ease up and when he needs deeper nourishment. It’s not about living on so-called ‘rabbit food’ all day—it’s about wholesome, home-cooked meals, the way they used to be.
And the difference? He has energy, resilience, and balance. His body and mind are supported. When stress comes—and it always does—he’s equipped to handle it.
Men’s Health Isn’t About a Six-Pack
I’m not here to give you a six-pack. I’m here to help you get the best out of your body—to feel energised, balanced, and alive.
When men’s health improves, the whole family benefits. Firstly, and foremost their own but as a domino effect so too does the partners, children, friends, pets and communities all feel the ripple effect. Your work also improves. More focus is present to help you deal with jobs more effectively.
That’s why I focus on men’s health. Because men deserve to feel good—not just get through the day, but truly enjoy life.
